Description: Join Village Growth Network for a Family Play Day. We will prioritize joy and play in nature by meeting among the trees at Umstead State Park (Cary). Semi-structured activities will include campfire building, story reading, and a nature activity. A bulk of our time will revolve around free play and exploration of the natural environments with buckets, scoopers, magnifying glasses, field guides, and more. Dr. Jennifer Stone and Kelly Partner will help facilitate casual discussions among families about what radically respectful relationships with children can look like and what the challenges can be - especially when it comes to exploring nature and playing outdoors.
Facilitators:
Dr. Jennifer Stone, Speech Language Pathologist
Kelly Partner, Family Nature Educator
Accessibility notes: The parking lot is large, paved, and includes a handful of handicap parking spots near the bathroom. We will be gathering in the wooded area outside the picnic shelter. The picnic shelter will be used mostly in case of inclement weather, but a majority of the activities will occur in the wooded area outside the shelter which is natural surfaces with lots of leaf covering. The picnic shelter itself is paved (not level with the ground, but not quite a “step” up). The two paths to get to the picnic shelter are approximately ¼ mile each, are made of packed gravel, and sloped slightly downhill. There is a bathroom in the parking lot with several stalls for both men and women including a larger stall in each.
Equitable pricing: We participate in equitable pricing with accessible, sustainable, and equitable rates for families to pick from. Equitable rates are for people who have greater access to financial resources (including health insurance and ESA+ grants as applicable). This rate helps redistribute wealth to the community by supporting accessible access rates, covering long term operation costs, and ensuring Village Growth Network facilitators are compensated for their time and expertise. "Sustainable" rates cover the basic costs of the event or class. "Accessible" rates are for people who have less access to financial resources.
Equitable pricing is rooted in trust and compassion between facilitators, families, and the community at large. We encourage families to honor their own financial health, which no one else can accurately measure.
Equitable price tiers for this event:
Equitable rate - $0
Sustainable rate - $4 (Coupon code: SUSTAIN)
Accessible rate - $8 (Coupon code: ACCESS)
